Instead, they enjoy brunch and indulge in too many mimosas, just like anyone else! In The Brunch Crowd, four queer trans artists in their twenties gather at their favorite Mexican brunch spot in the heavily gentrified Austin, Texas.
Culture Shock Synopsis: Two African students, Zahra from Tanzania and Hawi from Kenya, start school in an Ivy League institution. They are placed in Salama House, an all-black dorm and affinity space for black students. Faced with cultural, academic and economic challenges, Zahra and Hawi try to make it through Freshman Year, while facing the reality of what it means to be black in America.

TEXAS STATE THEATRE INFORMATION:
The Hollywood Reporter has named Texas State University’s Department of Theatre and Dance one of the top 25 drama schools in the world.
TXST is the only Texas school ranked on the list, which includes schools like The Juilliard School, the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, and Carnegie Mellon. The annual ranking is based on criteria such as course offerings, faculty expertise, and alumni success.
Notable alumni from TXST’s Department of Theatre and Dance include:
- Dannie McCallum, who starred in Disney+'s “Echo” and recently announced her appearance in the upcoming film Here alongside Tom Hanks.
- Rachel Webb is performing on Broadway in & Juliet and will lead the first National Tour of the production as Juliet.
- Tyler Larson recently worked as a production assistant on Diana: The Musical, which appeared on Broadway and was released on Netflix.
- Hannah Hurd, who is a post-production coordinator for Apple TV+.
The Department of Theatre and Dance is committed to improving the accessibility and affordability of performing arts education. For the 2024-2025 academic year, the tuition costs for the incoming MFA graduate students will be covered. Also, starting this fall, the department will implement a new “last-dollar” tuition assistance initiative for its incoming musical theatre class.
